RC Lens has qualified to compete in the 2022-2023 Coupe de France quarterfinal stage after earning a hard fought 4-2 win via a penalty shootout over Lorient in the Round of 16.

The team has been drawn against FC Nantes in the quarters and Lens Ghanaian midfielder Salis Samed gets the chance to compete for his first silverware in his professional career.

22 year old Samed played his third game in the knockout competition this season and lasted the entire duration of the contest that ended 1-1 at the end of regulation.

Samed completed 51 out of 54 accurate passes and made three key passes while winning three of nine ground duels in the contest.

However, Samed and the rest of his Lens teammates won’t face Nantes in a packed Beaujoire Stadium due to a stadium ban slapped on Nantes last season.

Nantes won the Coupe de France title last season but got fined 50,000 Euros on top of the ban for excessive use of smoke bombs against Nice.

Samed is coming off a solid run of performances for Ghana’s Black Stars at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
